ART PHILOSOPHY
Art shapes not only what we see, but how we see.
I am interested in perception as an active process—one continually transformed by light, time, memory, and attention.
Through abstraction, I create open visual environments that invite sustained observation, allowing meaning to emerge through experience rather than explanation.
Rather than offering conclusions, my work creates space for perception itself to become visible.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the movement of light and the ways perception continually reshapes our experience of the world.
Each work begins through live improvisation. Rather than illustrating predetermined ideas, I respond to subtle shifts in color, rhythm, and spatial relationships, allowing the composition to emerge through sustained observation and intuitive decision-making. The finished work records both the act of seeing and the process of becoming aware.
The Refraction series draws inspiration from the behavior of light—how it bends, disperses, and reveals relationships that are otherwise overlooked. I use abstraction to create perceptual spaces where viewers are invited to slow down, remain present, and discover meanings that unfold over time rather than through fixed interpretation.
Working across painting, stained glass, installation, and live creation, I am interested in how contemporary art can transform attention itself. Rather than offering answers, my work creates conditions for observation, inviting each viewer to encounter the visible world—and themselves—with renewed curiosity.
ARTIST BIO
Fenway Fan is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores light, consciousness, and inner architecture. With an artistic trajectory spanning over 35 years, her practice is grounded in deep technical mastery and a sophisticated understanding of visual storytelling. Trained at Fudan University (BFA) and the Rochester Institute of Technology (MFA), she spent nearly two decades as a leading visual developer for global icons—including Disney, Hasbro, and NBCUniversal. In 2021, Fenway distilled this extensive professional foundation into an intuitive, energy-centered studio practice, translating subtle perceptual states into abstract visual form.
Her signature Refraction series translates subtle energetic states into abstract visual form, creating portals that invite viewers into presence, attunement, and recognition. Fan’s work spans physical and digital mediums, with recent expansion into immersive experiences and XR-based light installations.
Her art has been exhibited internationally at venues such as Tokyo Tower, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, Disney Parks, and Boston City Hall. Disney honored her as “The Grandest Vision” Artist in a global documentary, celebrating creators whose work embodies imagination, emotional resonance, and visionary depth.
Based in Boston, Fan also founded Magic Soul House, a nonprofit art studio offering community-centered creative programs and public art experiences.
